Kim as he was known was the Platoon Communications Officer & Regimental Communications for the regiment from July 53 till Feb 54. He went from the Punch Bowl to Chorwon Reservoir. He came from Kure, Japan from the chemical school, then from Tokyo, then from Ft. Benning, Ga where He finished the Officers Training school. He actually was with the West Point class and became sick and got put back. He went to the Communications School at Ft Benning and then straight to Korea. He got promoted to 1st Lt while with the 224th. They even gave him a date of rank with the West Point class trying to keep him in. He was promoted to Captain after he got home and joined the Reserves.
He felt that he was real lucky while in Korea. He stated that he had great non-coms with him and had an outstanding communications in the Galahad regiment. We even won an Army recognition for outstanding communications in Korea but it was all due the younger guys who were in the platoon. They were outstanding he said.
He escorted General Gaither, VP Nixon and Pres. Rhee for a 40th Division parade and the presentation of the Korean Presidential award.
