Pvt. Baithazor was KIA (killed in action)
by a 82MM mortar round that exploded beside him killing
instantly. Shrapnel penetrated the left side of his head
and face. He was killed in action approximately 2140 hours
on Monday 3 November 1952. Pvt. Balthazor was in his
foxhole at the time. There were 3 men killed in the 40th
Div that day. Pvt Balthazor was the 22,384th man killed in
Korea. He was on Sandbag Castle assigned to "C" Company.
The enemy was attacking at the time that the
82MM round went off. Sandbag Castle was situated just
to the east of Heartbreak Ridge. The Punchbowl was to the
east of Sandbag Castle.
Pvt.Balthazor was born and raised in Bear Creek, Wisc.,
drafted into the US Army in February of 1951. He arrived
in Korea in September of 1952. He was sent to "C" Company
as a replacement. The information and photos were
submitted by a relation of Pvt. Balthazor who served in
the U S Navy during the Korean War.2 Nov 1950--24 August
